Company History

     Furniture Market was opened for business on October 2, 1978 by Harry Sr. and Louise Morningstar as a retail store. The Morningstars had been in the retail floor covering business since 1965. The General Manager of the retail business was their son Harry Morningstar, Jr.

     The corporation operated in this fashion until 1989 when Harry, Jr. purchased all remaining corporate stock from his mother and father. Shortly thereafter, in 1990, Harry, Jr. also purchased Furniture Market's largest competitor, Schier's Furniture in Chambersburg, PA. The two corporations are now operated under separate names but as one entity by Harry, Jr.

     Furniture Market is located in the Waynesboro Historic House Building and contains three floors of quality furniture. Brand names such as Legacy, La-Z-Boy and Thomasville are featured on the 20,000 square foot showroom.

     Schier's Furniture has been located on busy Highway Route 30 West in Chambersburg's commercial area since opening in 1955. Brand names such as Sealy, Klaussner and Riverside are featured on the 18,000 square foot showroom.

     Serving both stores is a 17,000 square foot warehouse adjacent to Furniture Market. This building also provides Main Street, Route 16 frontage in Waynesboro with a huge front display window.

     All three historic buildings are maintained according to period architectural style and are in A-1 condition. There is plenty of free parking provided at each location for employees and customers. We are celebrating 30 years of business in 2008.
